Modern
.
Philosophy:
.
The class, for a dancer, can be deeply personal and
sacred; therefore, the role of the teacher is that of great
responsibility and privilege. The relationship and
interaction of all participants in this 1.5 hours is fleeting
and timeless. All things fall into place when a teacher's
preparation and facilitation are motivated by the idea of
"sincerity of expression".
.
Approach:
.
HNM's modern classes are innovative, complete,
progressive, musical, technical, respectful and fun! It's
our value that all dancers become finer artists in some
ways from having taken our classes.
.
Contents:
.
HNM's modern classes are made up of three equally
important components:
.
.
1. Softening the body... torso, all joints
(freeing up for ease of movement)
2. Strengthening the body... torso, legs, feet, arms
(guided stretch included)
3. Dance. All components unite. It's when movements become art.
Contemporary
.
Contents:
.
We begin with movements that promote
creativity and playfulness followed by
massage, improvisation and simple
repetition which dissolve tension and evoke
healthy body alignment.
.
Through a series of movement phrases that
start on the floor and transition upward, we
challenge and improve stability, coordination, stamina and range of motion.
.
We end by exploring moments of suspension while integrating what has been previously experienced,
thus teasing the music into its fullness. With full-force physicality we're flying!
This class is suitable for people of all experience levels.
